ROBERT TAYE from Mme Vitulli’s Grade 7 French Immersion class at St. Eugene Catholic Elementary School in Hamilton received First Place for the Diocese of Hamilton in the 2020 Creative Kids contest sponsored by The Hamilton Spectator! All of the students in Mme Vitulli's class submitted entries in the Creative Kids Contest. The contest is in its twelfth year, this program is a unique partnership between area businesses, Newspaper in Education and the Advertising department of The Hamilton Spectator. After engaging in an exploration of The Hamilton Spectator and print advertising, students are offered the opportunity to develop an advertisement for a local business. Winning ad designs will be chosen and featured in a special section to be published in-paper. The Grade 7 class was given the task of creating an ad for the Diocese of Hamilton.
This year’s theme was: Hope Within Us, Hope for the World.
Robert's ad was selected by Bishop Crosby for his Heart to Heart message to the diocese.

Mme Vitulli expressed her pride in the efforts put forth by her students. Mme Vitulli said, "I am so proud of the hard work and success of my students. They really understood the importance of advertising and were able to apply their knowledge and skills in an authentic real world situation. They are so very talented and have applied their use of critical literacy and media in such a meaningful way."
M. D. Crandall, Vice-Principal, acknowledged the importance of media literacy in the attainment of the Ontario Catholic Schools Graduate Expectations. "The students, under the leadership of Mme Vitulli, are living out the "I have a voice" Ontario Catholic Schools Graduate Expectations where they are called to be effective communicatiors. These types of authentic tasks help students to see the purpose of their learning and enable them to bring the curriculum to life. Ms. Spadafora and I are extremely proud of the high quality work that the students were able to produce. On aimerait remercier Mme Vitulli pour son leadership et féliciter les efforts des élèves. On en est très reconnaissant et fier!"
Congratulations to Robert and Mme Vitulli's class for their creative submissions. There truly is Hope within us and hope for the world.
