Students and staff at St. Eugene Catholic Elementary School participated in Chill Day on Friday, January 31, 2020.
Under the leadership of Mme Demers, Mme Fernandes, Miss Marskell and the Healthy Action Team (HAT), the over 600 students and staff participated in activities that celebrated team work, self-care, and strategies to de-stress and lower anxiety. From floor puzzles, Dance, Dance Revolution and Lego to Stress Lessons, yoga, and Tai Chi, students and staff were able to participate in a variety of activities that allowed them refocus and de-stress. The day was topped off with a whole school Christian meditation where everyone was reminded of the presence of God in our lives and how he accompanies us on our daily faith, life, and educational journeys.
Ms. Spadafora, school principal, highlighted the importance of mental health and wellness and how this is a much anticipated event for staff and students. "The mental health and well-being of our students, staff, and community members is of the utmost importance. Chill day is an important reminder for each and every one of us that we need to take care of ourselves spiritually, emotionally and physically. I wish to thank the organizing team, staff, grade 7 and 8 student leaders, as well as our community partners for participating in this very important event. I join St. Francis of Assisi in praying for our community through the following prayer, "Lord, help me to live this day, quietly, easily. To lean upon Thy great strength, trustfully, restfully. To wait for the unfolding of Thy will, patiently, serenely. To meet others, peacefully, joyously. To face tomorrow, confidently, courageously."
